6 Ways to Prepare for Holiday Guests

Katelyn Preston December 9, 2016

Christmas is almost here and many families are traveling for the big holiday. If you’re welcoming people into your home for the festivities, you may begin to feel overwhelmed with the mountain of things to do before your guests arrive, not to mention the stress of having them stay with you. Here are six ideas to make the whole process easier for you, and your guests.

Provide your WiFi name and password ahead of time so no one needs to keep asking for it! The easiest thing to do is write it down and put it in the guest bedroom. You can get fancy by printing it off and framing it on the nightstand if you want to, but as long as it’s easily accessible and seen by your guests, your mission is accomplished.

Directions for Electronics

Especially if you are going to be working or otherwise away from the house while your guests are home, it’s critical to leave clear instructions for how to operate your electronics. Print or write instructions and leave them on our counter or coffee table underneath the remote(s).

List of Attractions

If your guests aren’t the kind of people who like to sit at home, provide them a list of attractions and things to do close to your house. Coffee shops, galleries, museums and shopping are all ideas to get you started.

Travel Toiletries

Do you collect travel-size toiletries from hotel rooms? Now’s the time to break those out! In case anyone forgot shampoo or toothpaste, you can put a stash of those things in your guest bathroom. They’ll be thankful for it.

Ask for their food allergies

If a guest needs to avoid gluten or has a severe peanut allergy, you probably shouldn’t serve toast with peanut butter for breakfast every morning. Make sure you know of any food allergies and have a few basic, whole food options on hand for the people who have them.

Spare Keys

Of all these tips, this may be the most important. If your guests will be staying for an extended period of time, they’ll want to be independent and come and go as they please without worrying about bothering you and your schedule. Providing spare keys is the easiest way to give them the independence they want.

Take these six tips for preparing for holiday guests and get to it – the time for holiday guests is now!
